Lifecom has developed an entirely new form of artificial intelligence technology and a supporting suite of knowledge development tools. The Lifecom technology portfolio includes novel knowledge extraction and management tools, the artificial intelligence engine, and a highly graphical user interface. Seven patents applications are pending.
The building of the Lifecom Knowledge Warehouse begins with the Content Parsing Engine. This software tool “reads” medical textbooks and journals. Each sentence is analyzed in conjunction with two lexicons that define medical terms and sentence structures. The identified “knowledge fragments” are classified in thirty-eight unique categories of information (e.g. etiology, pathology, signs and symptoms, variant presentations, complications, interventions, etc.). The knowledge fragments are manually reviewed and clinical test cases are created. Following verification with the test cases, the artificial intelligence engine produces a “knowledge report” of all of the aspects of a particular diagnosis for review by the physician members of the Editorial Review Board. Only after this final review is a new diagnosis entered into the Lifecom Knowledge Warehouse and distributed to users over the Internet.
Lifecom's Adaptive Knowledge Engine recognizes users by their log-in identifier, and communicates in terms appropriate to the user. Medical information and questions are presented in highly specific medical terminology for professional medical users, and in fifth grade lay terminology for direct interaction with the patient. Provisions for multiple language versions of the System have been included.
The patient demographic data and patient clinical data are stored in separate encrypted file structures. Customers are encouraged to participate in the Lifecom Clinical Data Network which makes patient records available (HIPAA compliant) across the Internet to other healthcare providers when authorized by both the patient and the referring medical practice .
